From an item girl to Sanjay Dutt’s wife, Manyata has followed the super fast track to fame. But her past is fast eclipsing her new status
Who is this mystery woman in Sanjay Dutt’s life? She may have only figured in a raunchy yet unnoticed item number in Prakash Jha’s film Gangaajal but today she is virtually ruling Sanjay Dutt’s life. Now amidst much speculation about who the real Manyata is, comes the latest buzz and probably the most vicious of them all. That Manyata is nothing but a ‘plant’ placed by the underworld in Dutt’s life to keep a watch on him. His latest interest in joining politics, what with him being seen in the politician garb regularly of late, must be an attempt to break free and create a new identity. It shouldn’t be a daunting task for someone who has public sympathy in hordes—his puppy dog looks, unfortunate tryst with drugs and heroic re-emergence, his prison stint, hit films thereafter and his father’s death—and Congress would only be waiting to hand him over a ticket assuming his success rate would be nothing less than 100 per cent. What’s more, doting sister and politician Priya Dutt has magnanimously agreed to let go of her seat for the sake of her brother.
After his two unsuccessful marriages, first to Richa Sharma who succumbed to cancer and then Rhea Pillai who ended up with Leander Paes, just when people thought Sanjay Dutt was having an affair with dancer Nadia Durrani, he suddenly upped and married an obscure and unknown woman. It was only a matter of time before skeletons from the cupboard began to show.
No one knows how Manyata actually got into the film industry. Our source says that in all likelihood the lady has a secret benefactor. Rumours and sources have it that the star struck Manyata agreed to do a raunchy number in Gangaajal not for a searing ambition to make it big in the film industry but rather to see herself on the big screen—with the stars she had always admired. This is further corroborated with Sanjay Dutt’s comments when he made the first public appearance with Manyata by his side at the Screen awards. He had said then that he had brought Manyata along because she wanted to see all the stars at close quarters.
Manyata, who is today a symbol of a devoted wife, is said to have made a rather back door entry into the industry. According to a source, one hasn’t really heard stories about her struggle to make it big, except for starring in a B grade film called Lovers Like Us. Sanjay Dutt is supposed to have bought the rights of the films for a paltry Rs 20 lakh because naturally he didn’t want his ladylove to be remembered as an actress who did such a film. He is also said to have wiped the market clean of VCDs and DVDs of the film.
